One of the Buddhist teachings is that wealth does not guarantee happiness and also that wealth is impermanent.

You cannot serve God and money.

Hinduism advocates austerity, simplicity and detachment, but does not glorify poverty.  Wealth is not an impediment to self-realization, but attachment to wealth is.
