The Apple's iTunes store will soon begin selling purchased songs that can be transferred to an unlimited number of various electronic devices.
"According to Variety, “Starting immediately, 8 million songs on iTunes, from all four major labels as well as indies, will be sold without the anti-piracy protection known as DRM. By March, the remaining 2 million will drop the extra software that limits the number of times a purchased song can be transferred between devices to a CD.”
Now customers who already own songs from apple can convert those songs to DRM free by paying an additional $0.30 per song to buy their freedom. This could be an expensive proposition for many people since they didn't just fall into the iTunes store.
I haven't seen any mention of the audio books or movies and TV shoes without the DRM. But, the year has just begun and anything could be possible in this new year. Time will tell if the chains of bondage from the DRM will be loosened even more. I believe that honest people will still buy their music and assorted digital media from the proper sellers. Even though this is an interesting move to say the least, I was hoping that they could have grand fathered a number of us patrons who have been long time Apple iTunes store customers without hitting us for one more cent to give us an option to listen to our music where we want to listen to it....
